roman sarcophacus found in Bocholtz (NL)
#1
I found this in the Dutch newspaper "De Telegraaf" of 20 nov. 2003:

A Roman sarcophacus has been found in Bocholtz, province limburg - NL.
The sarcophacus is probably 1800 years old, is made from stone and will be transported to the Thermenmuseum in Heerlen. There the sarcophacus will be researched further. So far, Roman glas, bronze dishes and vases, a complete chair for children, a bronze strigilis, iron nails, a complete bathing-oil flask in the shape of a manly figure with a fox over his shoulder has been found. All objects seen to be in an excellent shape.

The sarcophacus was found on the land of a farmer.

The person in the sarcophacus was probably the owner of the Roman villa Vlengendaal, found a small distance away.
OK, here's a link to a site which has the complete NEWS ITEM.
Don't worry about the language, most of the interviews with the locals (who speak Limburgs) are as unintelligable to us Dutch as they must be to the rest of you!
It has good views on the sarcophagus, that's all.
i getting a dead link there, but after some searching on that site, it seems that a bronze bust (of a hunter) has also been found. The histoprians who are working on it say that these finds belong to the top 5 of historical finds in NL!
