What 'troops'? Place, era, type?

By the way, for most of them the answer will be 'we don't know'. None was probably a popular option. There is made mention in one of the Vindolanda tablets (Tab.Vindol. II.346) of underwear (called subligaria). I cannot find any dating but it concerns Roman auxiliary soldiers in the north of Britannia, somewhere between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD.

Michael,
The roman military wore a loin cloth type of underwear proven by the vindolanda tablets. The under garmets were called subligarium
