Les Listes de préséance byzantines...
#1
Anyone know where one could find a copy of Nicolas Oikonomidès' 404 page book from 1972/73, Les Listes de préséance byzantines des 9e et 10e siècles - 9782222014829 aka Taktikon Oikonomides? Since seeing it in the sources section of Sarah Speight and Michael Perry's article Emperor and Army in Byzantium c.900-1081, in Wargames Illustrated 34(July 1990), I've been looking for this title, with no success - nothing on Scribd, nor offerings on Abebooks and etc.. Sad The store is linked from the publisher, Centre de la Recherche Scientifique, but it's out of stock and don't think it'll be reprinted soon.

Anne Moffat's English translation of the Book of Ceremonies, published by the Australian Association for Byzantine Studies 2012, contains the useful bit of Listes de préséance byzantines, which is the Klêtôrologion of Philotheos.

That would be very much interresting to have access to.

What about Historia syntomos from Psellos?I will probably obtain a copy as I am too much curious on it and every new detail is very useful.Anyone have experience with it?I read his description here is significantly different from that in his more famous work Chronographia.

Also looking for a copy of the Book of Ceremonies, but Ann Moffatt's and Maxene Tall's two volume work, from 2012, might be OOP, difficult to find and priced almost 4-5 times higher than the listed AU $77.00 in the Bryn Mawr Classical Review 2013.08.19. According to footnote 3 in the BM review:
Quote:J.B. Bury also produced a commentary on the Kletorologion, with a revised version of the Greek text: The Imperial Administrative System in the Ninth Century, with a Revised Text of the Kletorologion of Philotheus (London, 1911).
Bury's book is a Print on Demand title, available for as little as $20 +/- s&h, and also free online. Having browsed through it, pages 7-129 is commentary, the remainder containing the Greek text of the Klêtôrologion, but I assume that Oikonomidès Les Listes, with 404 pages probably has additional commentary and updated information, 61 years after Bury's work.

If you directly to the AABS, here : http://www.aabs.org.au/byzaust/byzaus18/ , you should have no trouble getting a copy of the Book of Ceremonies at the advertised price.

Thanks. The two volumes for AU$107 sea mail or AU$147 for air mail is better than $350+, though no shopping cart and I'm wary of providing credit card details in emails - maybe the order form as a secure attachment? Byzantina Australiensia Publications does have an interesting offering: Vol. 8 Eustathios' The Capture of Thessaloniki in 1185 by the Normans and Vol. 12 John Kaminiates' The Capture of Thessaloniki by the Arabs in 904.
