i never heard of the author and the editor looks suspect too.

It's a self-published book, and the author seems to be an amateur historian (he mentions in the introduction that he studied history as an undergraduate). The cover's terrible, and while the text might be a reasonable summary it's badly in need of a decent editor. There's an extensive bibliography, but no footnotes that I can make out.

As an alternative, this one has been recommended by a few people. This might be more heavyweight.
