The word you're looking for is repousse'.

Right now, it's something I've been working on rather a lot recently. Most of my resources are at the workshop, but off the top of my head I would suggest the following:

Metal Techiques for Craftsmen by Oppi Untracht - this is the bible of metalworking techniques

and this is a good start also:

I just spent about 7 hours working on a repousse project with Hib, so I'm not really in the right frame of mind to write about it...
Does the metal techniques book cover more than jewelry work? I am thinking of buying it but obviously its a bit pricy, so I want to make sure first?
Graham - the Untracht book has info on all sorts of techniques - what I like are the photo essays detailing particular processes.

There are also tons of reference tables, and lots of the true, CORE bits of knowledge that may be missed.

It is a classic, and you may be able to peruse a copy at the local university library.
Do you need the jewellry working section so you can make yourself a nice little set of earrings to match your manica?
Hib,
"Repoussé" is very easy to pronouce. trust me.
It's like "Rouen", or "rouerie"...
No, seriously, it's pronouced: "re", with the "e" sounding like in "Her". Then "poo", then "say". The accent on the final "e" makes it sound like in "say".
Had the accent been pointing up backwards it would have sounded different, a but like the "e" in "help".
It means repelled, or pushed back, in french.
BTW, do you know how the word "ghoti" is pronounced in english,
Well it's pronouced "fish"..
"GH" is "F" as in "enough"
"O" is "I" as in "women"
"TI" is "SH" as in "CAUTIOUS"..
