What is illogical is the assumption that these highly decorated armours were not worn in battle. Nathan's post is convincing. Why assume that these decorated armours were Roman "parade armours" when we already know that a lot of it was worn in battle and there is no actual evidence for parade armour? Is there any evidence for parade armour in any other culture during this time period that the Romans could have emulated?
