Oldest wheel in the world
#1
It's not really a standard topic, but still it moved also in the Roman world
Found in 2002 and after being in restoration in Mainz in the last 4 years it finally has it's own exposition until April 2014.

That's interesting. I would have expected very old wheels to be simply thin sections from a log, but this looks like it was manufactured in some fashion.

Hi, interesting article. I shall post an image from book "The Horse In Human History" by Pita Kelekna of a restored second-millennium BC disc-wheeled wagon. Although not as old as the one you mentioned I thought it should be worth posting. Apologies for quality, pic taken off book with ipad.
Caption for the image says it was found in Barrow 9. Lehashen, Armenia.

Is this true?.....its on TV
Seriously now....Bill Putnam, Roman Dorset on page 137 shows a pick of excavated Roman road showing wheel ruts..
Date unknown...?...but possibly late Forties, but possibly late Four hundreds?
Who knows? So did wheel widths change or stay the same over time?
