Cuirass
#1
Does anyone know anything about this particular sculpture please....where it is located etc?
I am interested in the cuirass relief/decorations, and would like a little more information and ultimately some better photographic references of it.
I do recall someone mentioning it on RAT some time back but I can't find any reference to it.

Thanks

Hello Marcellus,

I too was interested in this piece, as it is often said to be a (if not the only) accurate depiction of a Roman Republican general's panoply, established in Rhodes sometime in the 2nd century BC, I believe. However, I believe the current feeling amongts some members here, IIRC, is that it is just as likely to be the panoply of a Rhodian officer.

I do believe that this statue was used by Richard Hook in his depiction of a Roman general of the Carthaginian wars for Osprey.

If anyone has any more information, once again, I'd be very eager to hear it!
