Tarraco Viva 2004
#1
From the 18th to the 30th of May, Tarragona is holding the sixth edition of the Annual Festival of Roman History, better known as Tarraco Viva, which is organised by the Dissemination Service of the Tarragona Museum of History. For almost two weeks, a whole range of events will commemorate the city's Roman past.

And the events are indeed many and varied: cavalry parades, gladiator fights, musical and theatrical performances, fairs of various products, lectures, areas at which to taste the cooking of the time, guided walks to learn about the myths and beliefs of the Ancient Romans… And all this in the unique context of a city that preserves excellent examples of the rich architectural and sculptural heritage of ancient Tarraco.

Some of these events require prior booking or invitation; others do not; some are free and some are not; and many of them are held at monuments that have been declared a UNESCO world heritage site.

As well as submerging the visitor in the atmosphere of the Ancient Roman city, TÃ rraco Viva also lets him get closer to Ancient Roman times in general, providing information on museums, monuments and archaeological sites in different European countries.

Unfortunately I'll not be able to attend to the festival. Is anyone in this forum near Tarragona or has plans to attend the meeting?
This year I cannot attend
Nasty work (preparar una oposición) and a dughter bound to be born around those days will keep me from Tà rraco this year...
Therefore, my unit, Cohors Prima Gallica, alongside with the Foederati, will have to make do without its tribunus, so, please, put an eye on them, lest they get all drunk before they start the first performance!
Have a good time there!
It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Hi Aïtor,
I promise, we won't get drunk !!! I hope we'll have a good fun (if the customs officers let us cross the Hispano-french border with our weapons...).
The customs have only been shortly revived for that boring royal wedding but they will be, hopefully, not functioning by your venue (Blessed Schengen!)
Have you been able to found that Tiparos Thai fish sauce?
At least the lads will bring back some photos for me...
Many American Romans would love to witness/take part in such an event! Sadly, many of us are teachers (or students) and are unable to take such a trip until our off-season, mid-June to the end of August. Is there any chance that this annual event would ever be moved to the summer? Just curious.
Hello Aïtor,
I completely forgot the sauce... But I'll try to find some on wenesday. I hope you're right about customs, because I'm waiting in vain for a formal invitation or any official paper confirming that my group is expected to attend the event...
I'm not in the organization but the Tarragona festival is firmly placed on the last week-end of May since its first edition, in 1999.
Alain,
Don't worry about the fish sauce if you're too busy
I've not been in charge of the coordination with the Tarragona organizers this year and I don't know if they've sent any formal paper to my group. Bear in mind that you've not been hired directly by them but via our group, instead, Therefore, your invitation goes through ours....
Don't worry about the customs, the're now empty for most part of time!

And remember, the punishment for offenders to the military discipline will remain the same than last year!
