Remember, Greeks only settled in parts of southern Italy. Most of Italy remained the same as it was before the Greeks settled in the south: the Etruscans and Umbrians in the north, the Samnites and Latins (Romans) in the middle, and Messapulians, Apulians, and Italiotes living alongside the Greeks. In terms of warfare between the Italic tribes, many of them (most notably the Etruscans) adopted a Greek-style phalanx. Apart from that nothing really changed about most of the Italic tribes following the Greek settlement.

What have the Romans ever done for us? Apart from better sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for US?
