LRE V - Nijmegen, August 5-11 2013

Hello everyone,

As the happy news about Museumpark Orientalis being open for this year is still sinking in, the planning of the 5th Late Roman Event is kicking off.

LRE V will take place on the weekend of 10-11 August 2013. People will be welcome from Monday the 5th from 12 in the morning and are expected to leave again on Monday morning (the 12th). This means you can camp a whole week inside the park if you wish.

The museum is closed to the public on Monday but open to visitors from Tuesday to Sunday. Those who are planning to arrive before the weekend are expected to display 'town life' when in kit in the museum during public hours, but official activities are only planned for the weekend. Nevertheless, everyone who is present in the park during opening hours is expected to act visitor-friendly while dressed historically correct (no glasses and modern materials, etc.).

Food will be provided by the museum only for the evenings of Friday and Saturday. During the rest of the week you have to provide your own food, although that probably won’t be a problem. Water, coffee, tea and a refrigerator will be provided by the museum, though. We would like to ask everyone to attempt to cook as authentic as possible during the daytime.

As planning progresses there will be more updates. Everyone who wishes to come early, please contact Robert or Jurjen as early as possible, so we can make arrangements. We would like to hear, preferably before March 15th, who will be coming and when. We would like to know:

- How many are coming (and on which day?

- Are you bringing livestock (horses, chickens, etc.)?

- What activities will you be showing and what do you need the park to provide for that?

- Do you already have a preference for any place in the park?

We hope we can provide accommodations for everyone, best suited to their wishes and needs.

LRE V is over (for more than a week actually) and it's been a big success. For a whole week, 60-70 Late Roman reenactors occupied the Via Romana of the Museumpark Orientalis near Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
We had a great time. The weather was perfect too (apart from the wednesday), contributing to what all thought was a memorable event, nop doubt to be repeated as soon as possible. Visitor numbers were quite high, setting records (Sunday was the best visited day ever).

We'll start negotiations for the 6th LRE next year soon I hope, and I'll post images as soon as I can (somehow the site won't allow that).
