Sica
#1
Hi guys!

I've searched the forum, but found nothing.

Can you point me to sica finds and details? I want to make one based on finds, wanna try it out for a sidearm impression. The internet did not help me with this Sad

Are you sure? I thought I had seen a wiki article on the Dacian sickle weapons.

Do you mean a Sico or a Falx? The sica is a one-handed weapon, where the Falx uses both hands.

There's a wooden rudis from Oberaden, with the curve of a sica.

I think that Kis György Márk is looking for a dagger sized sica?
I infer this to the (unsourced) reference that cutthroats and vagabongs that held people up on the roads to roam were known (at some time) as the sica men. I have always imagined wicked daggers similar to some of the excellent Arabic blades still carried today.
Of course
this is my inference and Kis György Márk maybe talking of a sica that is more the size of the ones commonly found in the arena and possibly as long as the wooden rudis from Oberaden.

If this is the case
research Thracian gladiators which has some space here on RAT.

Hope this helps?

Thank you all for the fast and great replies, I was indeed looking for a dagger-sized sica (at most 300 mm along the outer curve), and I found so many.
