A couple of papers on swords
#1
It is always worth spending a while prodding around in Academia.edu as there are some wonderful things to find there (also some terrors: two papers on a legionary fortress I had never seen before!). For those who do not know them, here are a couple of papers from Salvatore Ortisi about 1st-century AD swords (which you can download or read online):

Ortisi, S. 2006: 'Gladii aus Pompeji, Herculaneum und Stabia', Germania 84, 369–85
Ortisi, S. 2009: 'Vaginae catellis, baltea lamnis crepitent... Ein neues Zierelement am frühkaiserzeitlichen Schwertgehänge', Arch. Korrbl. 39, 539–45

If you have never heard of Academia.edu, it's like LinkedIn but with a purpose ;-)

At least you know you've got a fortress. They're still arguing about it! ;-)

Yes. I know Piso's stand on that. In the future it would be nice to check all the possible locations of early fortresses in Danube hinterland changed into coloniae - Emona, Poetovio, Siscia, Mursa, Sirmium, Naissus, Ratiaria, Scupi (as far as I know all of these by some authors have been suggested as fortresses).....
