Roman authors\' Hadrian\'s Wall Walk - for charity
#1
In late April/early May, I, Anthony Riches (Hodder author, Empire series) and Russell Whitfield (Myrmidon author, Gladiatrix novels) will be walking Hadrian's Wall, in full Roman gear. I will be dressed as a Second Punic War hastatus, Tony as a late Roman infantryman, and Russ as a 1st or 2nd C AD legionary or auxiliary (that depends on gear!).

We'll be posting lots of updates and photos as we walk; I'm also going to try to arrange one or two days when readers who are interested can join us on the hike.

We’re raising money for Combat Stress and Medecins Sans Frontieres. I have set up a charity giving page here.

It would be wonderful if any of you could see your way to sponsoring us, even it's only for a few dollars/pounds/Euros. Thank you.

Gentlemen,
best of luck to you all and a very worthy cause indeed.

Would love to join you if you could confirm the dates that are locked in others to participate.

@Mike: Thanks. We'll nail down those days asap, and I'll post about them here. I hope you can make it!

And if anybody is planning on rendezvousing with our intrepid Romani, then I shall be along too, spreading digital goodness and telling them it doesn't really hurt as much as they think it does. There will be live tweeting, blogging, and probably digital iced lollies too, for all I know.

I doubt I'll be able to carry the amount they'll need ;-) I'll minimise my need by spending a fortnight beforehand walking around barefoot.

Thanks for any donations!

I have my new Roman boots (thank you Sarah Juniper) and have started the breaking in process. Having done this walk once before I know what my feet are in for (and I have clodhoppers like a rhino in any case).

The best solution for blisters? Cut off the blister and let the skin beneath turn into leather. Unattractive, and initially painful, but it works...
