Details on the gallic type D helmet

What exactly are those 'flowers' on the rosettes above the cheek-pieces? I mean, you can clearly see the roset and the rivet that holds it, but there seems to be some metal on or under the rivethead. This is difficult to see on the old pictures , even on the enhanced picture on the Armamentarium-website.<br>
