You know we're of the same opinion regarding 'Byzantines' regarding themsel;ves as Romans. But in this case we're talking historical periods which are named for the sake of dumping all we know into 'clearly' defined periods. Cry 'Late Roman' usually begins c. 250 and goes on to 476 or Justinian. After that, it's called Byzantine. You can add 'Roman' to that of course.
