New Phyrigan Helmet- how do i build the crest?/
#1
OK
I have looked at my new phrygian cap for 11 days now (still in love! :-)
It is time to undertake what is , for me, an awkward piece of construction:
the crest
How would others do it?
The helmet has two small holes at the tip of the forward sloping phrygian peak ( I was going to say knob- but its not really knobby), attached to the beautiful decorative laurels(??).
I have done the research and believe the length of a 10mm(?)high and wide strap of wood should have a brass staple attached to the front to anchor it and the piece of wood should have a channel carved in it so that it sits snugly to the very wide rounded ridge of the helm.
THEN, I believe that two slots should be cut down the 125mm length of the "crest box" to take the plumes.
Possibly the whole box will be wrapped in leather or brass (it is a brass helm)
Possibly this leather will be longer than the box and may help make it behave.
BASICALLY- i have difficulty believing that an anchor point at the front will be able to keep this potential thing of beauty firm.
Hopefully I have been clear enough in expressing my predicament and plans.
Hopefully someone has already made one that works and is willing to give me some tips.
Thanks in advance,
Richard
