javelins
#1
I’m trying to list up some types of javelins (besides the pilum):

Used By Length Width Range
Veratum velites 1.10 m 1 finger (1 cm?)
Lancea auxilia infantry ? ?
Iacula auxilia cavalry ? ?
Plumbata comitatenses 30 cm(?) 0.5 cm (?)
Spiculum ? ? ?

if any can help me to find missing info or make additions to it (or why not, clean out errors); pls let me know.

Spears, whether javelins or thrusting spears, are not well-defined in ancient texts. Therefore we have no clear idea as to their general lenght, which may have varied.

There is no no such thing as a 'plumbata comitatenses'. The names known are 'plumbata mamillata' or 'martiobarbulus'.
No plumbata was found with the shaft intact, but modern testing may indicate that they were closer to 30 cm than 50 or more.
