Looking to get a more updated source on the Varian disaster of 9AD. Was thinking of Rome's Greatest Defeat: Massacre in the Teutoburg Forest by Murdoch.
Any good? or are there any better?

I´d be careful about the Varusbattle-Kalkriese-connection, though. Epigraphical context from the site and many other reasons make it more and more doubtful that the site has something to do with the Varus-desaster. Even the local Prof. for Roman provincial archaeology meanwhile calls it "A battle site in the context of the Varus-desaster and its aftermath". See here:
