Trooper helms finally starting to step up
#1
... sort of

I was doing a search to find out if there was something of interest of ebay, although there rarely is, and I found a few of the trooper helms have progressed significantly. They aren't perfect, but they've come a long way

Gallic G, the dimensions of the helm aren't bad either, 8.6" by 7.6"

Same one but with a crest:

Montefortino:

Now look at Deepeeka's: http://www.ebay.com/itm/AH6376-Roman-hel...040wt_1139

None of them perfect, but wow they have come a long way since I got interested in the hobby

Your right, it is a Coolus...

At least they are modeling them after decent helms, rather than the original trooper helm which appears to be partially based on Hollywood, and partially out of a child's wondrous imagination.

If I saw a reenactor wearing the original trooper helm, I don't think I could contain my irritation...

Sadly Matt, Italy is full of trooper helmets, as is the USA. Sad

Before I even took a detailed interest in Roman reenactment, I could tell something wasn't quite right with those helms. What company makes them?

The Trooper helms? Just about every Indian metalsmithing company makes them. I believe they were originally created by Deepeeka and copied by everyone else since

I call these helms "Troopers" as they are still not quite accurate enough for reenacting, although the "Coolus" in the above links is described as a "Caesarian era helmet" by many of Deepeeka's distributors, but without the helmet database up, it is hard to pinpoint what helmet it exactly was from, though it does look much like the Deepeeka version for a fraction of the price:

I had a look on the "new trooper"... its no solution for the "big heads" like me... 22cm-19,5cm... that would be a just fitting 60 cm circumference, I guess

I don't know if the shape is oval or deepeeka-pumpkin-round ?

Well it is 8.6"x7.6" so it is a little more oval than some of Deepeeka's

When I saw this one, I thought for sure it was a Deepeeka, but it is from an IOTC company, the only difference I noticed was the little bolt inside the eye, otherwise everything seems to be dead on. I asked the seller to post a third pic, which he did so I am very tempted, assuming someone didn't just snap 3 pictures of a Deepeeka Italic D Krefeld and post them. I know Gagan said some models were going to be discontinued, perhaps they sold the die to this IOTC company:
