It's easier for someone who is familiar with ancient mechanical technologies. These photos represent the famous watermill and aqueduct in Barbegal, France.

Wow indeed.
Moi Watson

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Merlot in one hand, Cigar in the other; body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!

I could see that there was an aqueduct involved, Ildar. But I have only ever seen the (very famous) drawing of Barbegal.

Thank you for sharing it with us, Christian!

You are very welcome, Duncan! :-)

Now as you guys know where it is, it might be easier to answer the first question of the quiz, which relates mostly to pic 1, 2 and 4. :-)

More precisely: What is special about the aqueduct? :-)

It is designed to deliver water to the top of each water-wheel in a sophisticated "overshot" system? Is this special enough?!

Hmmm... that is indeed special. Smile What I actually meant is that there are two aquaeducts running parallel to each other over a considerable distance. The eastern aqueduct is split for the two lines of mills after it breaks through the rock, the western aqueduct turns westwards within the rock. In the pic below you see this from west-north-west. The second pic shows the two aquaeducts running parallel, the right (eastern) aqueduct is much more damaged, though.

I don't mean to interfere, but shouldn't it be Ildar's turn, as he correctly identified the location?

I wasn´t sure.... the main thing about the question was about the double aqueduct. The "where is it?" was just an add-on, I thought. No?
