Wondering how a mailed shoulder cape would be attached to the hamata - any thoughts?

check out this site
http://www.larp.com/legioxx/hamata.html it has A LOT of info on the front, hooks and buttons on the backs i'd risk to say it's attached by a row of rings.

I presume you mean the shoulder doubling on the Hamata. Riveted with rings/continuation of mail construction or bukled? Buckled examples at the rear have been found apparently.

Mine was manufactured with it as a continuation of the mail by Al Hamdd. You are lucky i havn't put the leather backing on it yet. You can just make out the line of join. If you are adding the doubler to an existing Hamata then i would put buckles on it at the rear.

I was thinking about the hamata cape for cavalry, and some standard beaers, i.e. like the Quintus Luccius Faustus grave stela.

For horses/cavalry best ask Jurjen or Moi....they are both horsey people
