First Roman Castle found at the Mosel
#16
Moi,
....I strongly suspect that Bernkastel will be published on by the Trierer Landesmuseum
in "Funde und Ausgrabungen im Bezirk Trier/Finds and Excavation in the Trier district"
--- Volume 44(2012) which will be published by mid-2013. I'll try , however , to get my hands on "early" publications if I can. A find of that stature may also find its way
into publications like the "Germania" or the "Archeologisches Korrespondenzblatt".
Like I said, I'll be watching this.

BTW: A panorama view of Bernkastel should give you an idea of the topographic situation there.

Moi Watson

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Merlot in one hand, Cigar in the other; body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!

Thanks,
...my pleasure.
BTW:
Anybody got a (recent) satellite-view/Google earth-pic of that place ?

Greez & Thanks

Woooomphhhh, there it is:

Wellllll ........ but only "love at first glance" ?
There's two "flies in the ointment" :
Neither is the resolution high enough to spot the finer lines of this place
Nor is that nasty shadow over the desired "view" going away

Hmmmmmmm

For now

Siggi, the article states "wird eine Führung für die Bürger und Bürgerinnen der Stadt Bernkastel-Kues angeboten" ("a guided tour will be offered to the citizens (male and female) of Bernkastel-Kues"); does this mean that it's residents-only, or can others attend?

I think yes,
otherwise a posting on a website for tourism ("Ferienland !")would not make much sense, wouldn't it ?!
Besides that-- since the "unscheduled" guided tours in June seem to have been open to
everyone interested -- why should they now be "restricted" ?
After all its a demonstration of how "public funding" was applied sensibly.

Nonono, that was me, a decade ago or more, in a discussion where I embarassingly mistook the word 'plane' for the flying kind instead of the tool. It kinda changed the tone of the discussion!

Robert,
Although this is slightly becoming "off topic" on my side .....
...the only thing that I'm still wondering about with the Romans is that there still has been,to my knowledge, no proof that they made efforts to make that "Ikarus-thingy" really work !
However it took the "western world" about 1000 years after the demise of the western roman empire to seriusly think about that ( > Signore Michelangelo Buonaroti).
BTW I still have to ask the Rheinisches Landesmuseum at Trier when and where ther will
be (more serious)publications on the findings about Princastellum.

However
