Small horse training with ALA Batavorum
#1
We had a very nice training with ALA Batavorum last Sunday (March 19). The object was to train some horses to charge in spite of noise etc. A good chance to meet a few people, and for a first experience on horse back.

Good stuff Smile especially the young lad on horseback - is he your son?

It certainly is very rewarding taking horses through the steps for the first time. Hope you didn't ache too much post-riding

That looks like a good fun day out! Can't start them young enough in my book!

So pleased to see the Ala coming together - keep up the good work!

Great stuff! Closest I'm getting to a horse right now is maybe seahorses!
Mind you, the tropics are further than the nearest land....

Yes, Jeroen (11) has been with fectio all his life, but this was a surprise - his first time on a 'real' horse if you know what I mean.
Neither of us had any back problems, but my shield arm is still a bit stiff from holding my scutum so high for so long.

So when do you start on Roman saddles?

What do you mean? That you don't see any? They weren't used in this training.

Yes, when do you start your son on one?
You seem to find my questions odd? Is there a problem?

I misunderstood - you meant when we start him on a Roman saddle. I thought you meant when we were going to make one.. Wink I would sure like to train jeroen on a horse, but we live too far away to do that very often I fear.. Cry

Robert - you are obviously living in the wrong place. You should consider Tipton instead.

The Tipton horses turn up quite regularly on the local news. Mind you, when I worked for West Midlands Police in the area, horses weren't generally what was keeping the rather overworked officers busy. Still, you can get away with keeping a horse on a grass verge outside your house whilst living within a major conurbation.
