Thoughts on late roman subarmalis?
#16
400 pleats, 1 for every year of Ottoman occupation.
Visne partem mei capere? Comminus agamus! * Me semper rogo, Quid faceret Iulius Caesar? * Confidence is a good thing! Overconfidence is too much of a good thing.

Quote:Several of the later period depictions appear to be pleated. Specifically when looking at the Byzantine empire.
I understand a bit how pleating works, but not for the upper arm parts. How does that stay horizontal - I assume it's all stitched together?

My solution would be pteryges stitched to a short sleeve.

Thanks Stephen! If that's not it, I surely would like to have more wrong links like that ;-) ... I also back Robert with the solution he suggested for the sleeves...

Should be a link to a video showing the development through the ages of the Albanian
Kilt. A very quilted allmost Subarmarlis looking thingie.

Try cutting and pasting this:

Guess our web BB is so paranoid, it's going to the extreme and removing any trace of a link out here... :-?

Whoa!! It's there suddenly!!

Spoke too soon, gone again....

If you disregard the modern nationalist humbug.. but even then I'm afraid it's just a garment more resembling a tunic than a subarmalis.

Granted Robert, I was just more looking at the origins and the likelyhood that it might have evolved from a commón sort of thing.

In warm climates why not combine the 2?

Maybe I just went in the wrong direction.
