No, I donĀ“t think so. A "vitis" is a "vitis", is a "vitis". Unless we find something in the sources that specifically says that it is something else, we must assume that it is a "wine-plant".

Titus Statilius Castus has raised an interesting point on Phalerae where he mentions how Centurians would have transfered in regiments.
Then of course we have the normal every year change where the centurians may have climbed the promotion ladder with the Primus Pilus having to retire each year, would this mean that every year a century of soldiers would have a new boss each year.

I don't have the specific reference(s) to back it up, but I thought the general consensus was that if a soldier earned some award(s), be it a torque, armilae or phalerae, that was the soldier's property forever and to be worn with pride.
