We have been given a 20 by 20 foot space for an encampment upon which we are going to setup a roman mini-marching camp within the convention center. The self-supporting tent frame:

And with the tent:

We'll spread some astoturf inside and around the tent to simulate being on the field.

Greetings,

Actually, a more apt title to this thread might be, "Going to St. Charles, IL" since that is where http://militaryhistoryfest.com/Reenactor_Fest/Home.html (formally known as "Re-enactor Fest") will be hosted at the Pheasant Run Resort and Conference Center. St. Charles is the far, far West suburbs of Chicago.

Trivial, but might alleviate any confusion to potential, casual attendees.

Regards,

Very cool. How will you stabilize the tent pegs? I'm asking, because I might need to do something very similar.

I thought this was about a Led Zeppelin song when I saw the title! Smile
Good luck withthe show, and a good idea for the tent for indoor display!

There are a couple options:
1. half size wooden pegs surrounded by astroturf duck-taped to the floor

or

2. No pegs at all and simply duck-tape the guys rope ends to the floor and surround with the astroturf.

As the tent is now self-supporting the guy ropes are just for show.

Fake roman tent pegs:

We'll duck-tape these to the floor and surround with astroturf.

Bloody hell! Thats impressive work...
It would have been easier getting metal pegs and a sledge hammer and hammering them into the floor!! :-P

Quite well, I think. We had 20 by 60 feet of roman, Dan Peterson's display, Rome Chicago, and us.

The rev war guys won with their Valley Forge display, the pirates came in second, and the german WWII guys placed third, but they had a tank.
