Leather horse chamfron
#1
I just wanted to share one of the pieces I've been working on over the last 2 years. It involved a lot of rivets and many other projects came in between, but last week is was able to finish the decorations on my first leather horse chamfron. Still have to add the tabula and eye-protectors (which have to be made, too) and finish the backing, but well, the rivets are done.

It's a simplified version losely based on the originals from Vindolanda and Housteads in the UK.

Next in line is a museum quality reproduction of the best preserved original from Vindolanda, which means more ornate decorations and many, many more rivets. Big Grin I'm only not sure when that piece will be finished.

Looks billiant, Jurjen! Really looking forward to the final piece, with the eyeprotectors in place. The medallion on the forehead is cool!

Smart! And you're MUCH further on than I am with mine ;-)

I wonder does this now put a date on it as being the earlier first years of Octavianus/Augustus.
