GW for the History channel
#1
Someone needs to film a bare chested two sword swinging George Washington defeating Wellington at the battle of Yorktown. It will fit right in with the History (or is Hysterical) Channel's current offerings of historically accurate programming.

Aide: "General Washington Wellington has rode out from Yorktown to challenge you to single combat"

GW; Stripping off his coat and shirt then grabbing two swords; "Let him bring it on"

George Washing defeated Lord *Cornwallis* at Yorktown

But the History Channel is filled with a lot of crap anymore, and many of these shows are not too bad on there own, but there is seemingly a week long marathon of "Gangland" and "Pawn Stars" all the time

Yes we know who fought who Matt. You see that is the point of the joke. So if someone has to explain the punch line it no longer is a joke. Get it....Wellington....come at me bro...two swords...single combat????

I rather thought it was the huge French presence in the area at the time - on land and at sea, that was the deciding factor. Washington might have been a great presidential leader and a bloke we can all be proud of (Brits too - since his family was from Washington in County Durham); but as a commander on the field his record is completely unremarkable.

The Brits won most of the battles in the AWOI, but unfortunately (generally due to overwhelming odds) lost the two key battles of Saratoga and Yorktown.

Interestingly, however, Sir Edward Pakenham who fought and died at New Orleans, was the brother-in-law of the Duke of Wellington - so there is a vague connection between The Iron Duke and the rebellious colonies ...
