That is the way I see the Thracian warrior equipped with some of artifacts from our museums and some of wall-painting from Thracian tombs in Bulgaria!

I’ve change a little the original draw and then printed it in black and white after this tinge it in colors.
I found someone who promised to in light me all about this noble thracian warrior funeral as I couldn’t find more info :-(

Looks like rawhide, althoug possibly over a wicker framework.

Not wicker for certain.
Wooden frame and body but not much left.
Very thick leather-rawhide and bronze list is what we see.

For my new book The Gods of Battle: The Thracians at War
I got a lot of interesting information about this shield from the achaeologists at the museum (yes, even after 20 years, it was still not published!) - see the book for the complete description. Thanks for posting these photos- I had to take my photos through glass. You can see my photos at http://home.exetel.com.au/thrace/images/armour.htm

The shield is bronze on wood and has an unusual egg-shape

I also published photographs of this shield in my Osprey Book "The Thracians".
