Retarius\'s straps: how attached?
#1
I am working on a retarius shoulder guard but realized I have no idea how it is strapped on, where the rivets and buckles go, etc. Is there a drawing or diagram somewhere?

There are photos showing the backs of galeri, and these reveal rings like those on strap-on greaves, usually two on each vertical side of the shoulder hollow and one at its top. Apparently they were laced to the manica, which was usually depicted as supported by a single strap slanting across the chest and beneath the right arm. Note that the galerus was worn with the fabric/leather manica, and just possibly with the segmented manica, but never with the mail or scale manica.
