I'm going to be visiting Rome next year and obviously one of the sites I'm going to visit is Trajan's column which I believe in the same area as Augustus's forums. From what I've seen you can't go down to it but I have seen videos of groups of people/tourist right next to it. I'm wondering if you can pay to be up close to it.

I believe there is a copy of Trajan's column in the V&A museum in London.

You can see it perfectly well from modern street level - any closer and you'd be down in the pit looking straight up at it and wouldn't see much at all. Last time I was there, in October, they had a big display set up next to it, with photos (life size I think) of the frieze reliefs, so you can study the details and then peer up at the column itself and see them in context.

Well I am looking at camcorders to take with me so I can zoom in and get up close and personal. I just thought it would be cool to be on ground level in the Augustus forums.
