Equipment of the Macedonian to Numantine Wars
#16
Yes actually the use of the Caligae as a standart military shoes starts during the second century BC, before that period all evidences shows little boots. Just look at sculptures and see when the first caligae appears on soldiers foots. I am preparing something on the first caligae, but evidences are so scarse. Fortunatelly, comparing late hellenistic sandals, etruscan ones and the earliest caligae known there is enough evidence for an educated guess tentative reconstruction. We are still working on it but I shoul be ready by next year I hope.

I was wondering whether anyone can add to the opinion about the currently available swords. I'm considering going for the SW137 )http://www.armae.com/antiquite/glaives_s..._SW137.htm), or the AH4215 sword, with the trilobe pommel I was hoping someone could explain why the latter has been taken out of the catalogues of Armae e.a. Is there something wrong, with the manufacture or historical accuracy?

Many thanks for any replies.

I've done a brief review on the Montefortino here: http://www.romanarmytalk.com/rat.html?fu...246#297348. I'm pretty happy with it, and with my still rather limited experience, find it well worth the price. I still need to add some lining and padding, though.

I posted a (somewhat bad) picture in my thread on the Montefortino Helmet (link: www.romanarmytalk.com/rat.html?func=view...mp;id=296246#297348 ).

Does someone have pictures of the hinges of a Montefortino (an original one), seen from the inside and outside!
I really need them!
