Trajanic Soldiers - Nice Artwork
#16
Yes, I quite like that image too, probably the artist did it because the shield covers the left side...

Hi Mithras - I'm an artist myself and have really been impressed by Zubkov's work. I must have spent at least this last hour trying to find out more info on him but wasn't very successful.
I can't even say how old these works are or even if Zubkov is even living or dead. But those works are really good, and if they were mine I'd really be giving them a lot more publicity (for certain) than what we've seen of them already.
Please let me know if you see any more of these works because I'd be really interested, and thank you for sharing those pictures with us.
Best regards, Appius.

All these Roman pictures are dated (19)95 (bottom right corner, next to the signature). The only other illustrations I've found by him have been of soldiers from Peter the Great's army.

I'm sure I've seen one of his pictures shown on RAT fairly recently (excepting this thread of course). I remember it because of the fascinating way of depicting breath on a cold day...

Was it this one? Byron mentioned it above somewhere.

I've a feeling that one of his pictures featured a pair of third century cavalrymen wearing Guisborough type helmets, on a cold evening riding along a road flanked by fallen grave stelae. Could that be the one (or am I thinking of another artist)?

Thanks Nathan, but no...and Crispus the grave stele rings a bell.

Perhaps it wasn't this artist

They're still rather good though!

I didn't see that Nathan - yeah I think I'd settle for what you said just then. It never occurred to me to look at the date like I normally do, and I'm an artist myself! Sorry Nikolai (if someone can translate this to Russian for me), I should have thought.

Ah - second time lucky perhaps? The artist in this case is Johnny Shumate:

That the one? :-)
