It may well be worth 'them upstairs' at RAT (tugs forelock deferentially) approaching Oxbow to see if a discount would be available if they could provide a list of guaranteed sales. I did a similar thing with my Inveresk book a couple of years ago, allowing a special discount to fellows of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Some idea of the likely demand is always a powerful incentive to a publisher; just having the authors tell them it will sell well is seldom convincing (it certainly didn't work with the other publishers we approached for B&C2, largely because of the indifference – or was it ignorance? – of the book clubs ;-).<br>

As for sympathy, I'm going to need it by the time this is finished!<br>
