The Roman Army in Jordan
#1
by David Kennedy

I bought this "handbook" accepting a proposal from the Oxbowbooks.
A small book, filled up with aerial photos, in a word a "treasury" of pics that no normal tourist can take.
A systematic list of all the evidences about dozens of roman forts I never heard about before.

I spent 29 british pounds (shipping included), but it is an amazing great value.

Hey, when RAT will organize a travel in Jordan to visit all those sites?

Edited by: Luca at: 6/25/04 8:02 pm

Those of us who have done fieldwork in Jordan with the good Dr Kennedy shudder at the thought!
The more I read this book, the more I would like to be there.
Why shudder? (I confess I needed the dictionary to translate this word) It was not a good experience? Problems with goverment or the jordan people?

Edited by: Luca at: 6/26/04 12:03 pm

Certainly not the latter – the people were always extremely friendly. David is a hard taskmaster so far as fieldwork in desert conditions goes, particularly if you have caught gastroenteriis from the water at Azraq (some of the most microbially active in the world). I'm afraid I may have inherited some of his tendencies, as my trips around the sites of Roman Britain can resemble route marches across hostile terrain.
I can thoroughly recommend it.
Then it certainly sounds like you need to propose an "Eastern Roman Frontier" tour to Andante Travels, Mike!
All in favor, raise digital digits!
