Thanks for the info John, I was very close to ordering this cuirass from them Confusedhock: ! I inquired at the end of august from Armae about their brass Deepeeka cuirass and Christophe said that they were having some quality issues with it but they will have a completely new / improved design within a month. I will inform here when I will get some info about it...

I would laugh if it was not so bloody annoying. Their response is that other buyers like it and brass is too expensive to use. No apologies at all.

Steer clear of this one brother.

That's a shame and scandalous false advertisement...

I was interested too!

I'm curious to see the one by armae. But probably that one will be much too big. I was pleasantly surprised to see this one was a smaller size, but luckily you showed a picture of the real thing!

I hope you get your money back!

Quote:What's the story with Armae's cuirass?

I discussed about the develepment of a new cuirass with ARMAE / Christophe last autumn. Christophe said that they were developing a complete new musculata and the first prototype should be ready early 2012. I inquired about it a couple of months ago but unfortunately Christophe said that they were not able to produce one. I don't know what was the company they were planning to develope the new cuirass with. This is sad, I surely could use a reasonable priced musculata Sad ...

Here is one that I made some years ago for the late Doug' Arnold and I took the style from one that is in a museum in Cagliari in Sardinia.
It is also shown in the book by H.R.Robinson and is said to be a statue of Drusus, what is sensible and should be considered by anyone is can one sit down in it or can one ride a horse with it as can be clearly seen by Doug'
I think that officers in the field would indeed have to be able to move around, ride and be able to sit down in comfort without the abdoman covering.

I agree too Brian, we just need to convince one of the suppliers to make one.

Hello Tarbicus

I have one of those you mention, not bad at all and very light, i have heavily modified mine.... leather edged around the collar and arm holes ( leather glued then drilled through both leather and armour and 'stitched'),dyed the leather red with spray dye then given a good polish with black shoe polish to deepen the red to a wine colour. Riveted pteruges to the armour at the waist (still have to do the arms) and attached thick leather shoulder doubling. if i can figure how to i will attach pics. I was a size 44-46 when i purchased it and with a bit of deep breathing and strap tightening i got it on....no sub though! have lost three and half stone since last wore it so imagine it will need padding with a sub now. Shame it is steel but i think it came out alright.

So I found two of the brass musculata on Ebay that actually looked pretty decent. I emailed the seller (both in India) and requested more pictures. The first one turned out to be the old deepeeka brass muscle cuirass, and the second one, a worse-looking version of that.

Neither Ebay seller was advertising the product they actually had.

Buyer beware!
