Roman wooden \"target\"
#1
I can remember reading an article which featured the discovery of a (Roman dated) human shaped wooden object- possibly a target given the various abrasions and bashes. I've searched my books and cannot find the article- can someone help my clearly failing memory?

I have only ever seen the object illustrated (in Roy Davies, Service in the Roman Army, 1989, labelled as "A practice post"). The picture caption indicates that it came from Annetwell Street, Carlisle, but I am not up-to-date with the Carlisle publications, so I cannot say whether it has been properly "reported" or not.
