Richard Holmes

Salve

Sad and unexpected news.

Richard Holmes, the famous British military historian and presenter has just died. His interest in bringing the experience of the common soldier to the front of history made his 'war walks' enthralling and poignant, as well as his in-depth studies of Winston Churchill and Cromwell.

My commiserations to his family.

I loved to watch his war walks. Inspiring, they were.
He eventually died of pneumonia - does that still happen?

Yes. Apparently he had non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a kind of blood cancer. Could be that, or treatment, weakened his condition / immunity system.Sad

Then again, even healthy people should not ignore a pneumonia too long...

Sad to hear it, by the way. His very obvious, almost joyous love for the subject matter of his documentaries was very catching. May he equally enjoy the company of the warriors of old in the afterlife.
