Roman Weekend, Murton Park, York, UK - 25-26 June
#31
Alas our storyteller had to pull out due to another engagement at short notice Sad but we were graced by a member of the Imperial court in the fort who entertained the children with allsorts of interesting facts on the lives women in the period.Though I had to feel sorry for her hard working servants, she knew how to make them work Confusedhock:
Fasta Ambrosius Longus
John

We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

The infantry of the Invicti Iuniores Britanniciani and its living history members had a great time at the Roman Fort at Murton Park over the weekend. Also there were friends from the Romanorum Cavalry, with four horses, plus Mark from Britannia. The weather was great, with Sunday being particularly hot. For a selection of photos, see Kevin Wolf’s splendid Flicker albums at:

Invicti Iuniores Britanniciani – for the most part!

It was a shame that the Storyteller was unable to come, and the expert tablet weaver was ill, but there’ll be other shows to see them at.

Some of us will be at a show together again soon – watch out for members of the Iuniores and Romanorum Cavalry, along with The Vicus and York's VI legion at the Ryedale Roman Festival 23-24 July, see: http://www.maltonromans.co.uk/ (full details pending!)

Where is that video of Stuart jumping Rocco with sword in hand and thenslicing the cabbage, that was some really skilled riding!

I think Tiberius did the same!

Very cool!

Indeed splendid! And he knows how to use Photoshop as well - I love what he does to the pictures! There is a 'gritty' look to them (don't know how to describe it).

Excellent video and very atmospheric music. Thats "gritty" effect is very good. Could we possibly have a close up of the red shield with the figures?

You could ... before I repaint the figures! They are pretty accurate copies of figures from one of the Dura shields, but I don't like them. I was planning to paint them out and find some more classical figures to paint.

I'll dig out a photo...

...I have this photo that shows the shield quite well, my close ups were taken in the house, so are not my favourite :|
