The decline and fall of the Roman Empire???
#1
I just wanted to share an article from my local paper that takes a brief look at some German Research about the two most famous Gallic Warriors: Asterix and Obelix.

The Article:

The Study:

Apparently, there is a lot of evidence that Romans suffered from traumatic brain injuries( at least in the comics)

A great study.

I would like to propose the following research from this invaluable source from the first century BC:

- Ceasar's deeds: a comparative study between the Bello Gallico and the chronicles of a Celtic Warrior named Asterix.

- Clothing the Gauls: a study in clothing on the Atlantic coast, 1st century BC.

- Diet of the Gauls: a case study in the use of fish and wild boar in the mid-1st century BC

- The search for Babaorum - renewed archaeological interest in the elusive Roman camps in early Roman Brittany.

- Late Stone Age revealed: use of menhirs by the Gauls.

I bet we can get a few grants for this. Big Grin

It's hard to believe this didn't come from the Onion. I'm in for some of the grant money. What do you want me to do?

What about analysis of the evidence for the use of segmentata in the period of Julius Caesar?

How about this:

- 'Going Green: Evidence for tunic colour in Ceasar's Legions during the Gallic Wars'.

'Going Green: Evidence for tunic colour in Ceasar's Legions during the Gallic Wars'.

To which you can add

'Ritual Deposits of Roman Helmets in Gallic Shrines.'
'Roman Army Shield patterns in the Gallic Wars.'
'Caesar's Campaigns in Northern Gaul: a reassessment.'
'The Mansions of the gods: New evidence from Roman Gaul.'
'The decline in Piracy in the Roman world: Was Pompey responsible or the Gauls?'
'Riddle of the Sands: Sphinx nose mystery solved.'
'Was there a Gallic Limes?: A mysterious Roman frontier in Northern Gaul.'

Our Roman group has been known to sport Green Tunics on occassion. That one pseudo-study about tunic colors really cracked me up.

Thanks for all who shared some more "research" ideas.
