It is just a label. Like all terms it is only useful if everybody agrees on a consistent definition.

I do not think you could simplify it more than what Dan said

Quote:Does somebody know any theoretical and methodological researches on such problemes?:

'Military history' is a humanities discipline within the scope of general historical recording of armed conflict in the history of humanity, and its impact on the societies, their cultures, economies and changing intra and international relationships.
A 'military historian' is a historian who focuses on the study of military history.

Of course I know Morillo s book (and I have it; I have forgotten to say about it).
But does somebody know any books, dissertations and researches on this theme besides this book?

I am sorry, but I cannot resist.

"Military History" is the really annoying section in the book shop, generally containing books on WWII, that you have to wade through before you find the History Section.

... and I cannot resist either:

“Military History” is the section annoyingly missing in bookstores in Germany!

Significant that Persian inscriptions record no lost battles.
Others claimed that "God willed it!"

My favorite is an old Chinese proverb-- "There is no history. Only stories."
And more recently, a Spanish script-writer claimed, "History is a blind man answering questions he was never asked."

I no longer waste time in the "Military History" section in large bookstores. I don't need a book on why MacArthur smoked a pipe. Usually I shop online where you can order all those books the dealers never stock on their shelves.Idea

I would suggest a search on www.searchedu.com - also try the pulldown menu for 'military sites'.

John Jessup A Guide to the Study and Use of Military History - downloadable free.

Ideally, the study of Military History is purposeful; so as to derive lessons learned from battles, campaigns, and wars. Thucydides is just as relevant today as Colin Gray - surely weapons have changed but human nature has not which means the Military Historian is more important than any other historian since 'war is of vital importance to the state, it is the road to either survival or ruin' (Sun Tzu).
