Cohors Primae Baetasiorum

Hi all

I'm looking to research the Cohors Primae Baetasiorum-The First Cohort of Baetasii. They were an infantry unit recruited from the Germanic Baetasii tribe from an area between the Rhine and the Meuse rivers. During the 4/5th centuries they garrisoned a fort at Reculver in Kent near to where I live. Where could I start looking for info on this unit? I'm particularly interested in clothing/ equipment/ weapons etc. Would there have been a standard issue for this type of unit during this period.

Hi, happy to help- are you looking for 4th / 5 th century information ? Quite a lot of stuff excavated from Richborough which is not too far from you.

thanks for the quick reply. Probably looking more towards the 5th C, seems a bit more interesting with the withdraw of the legions and the disintegration of the empire. Definitely interested in info Richborough, (will be doing a walk along the Wantsum channel from Reculver to Richborough soon).
I'm also interested in a fort that stood at Judds Hill in Ospringe, just 2 miles down the road (A2)from me, which also has the remains of a temple on the in a field nearby to it.
Were the Batavians and the Baetasii from the same area but different tribes?

They were based at one point in Alavna (Maryport) - the Cumbrian fort where one of my wife's books was partially based.
