Greek Aulos

I'm trying to make a greek Aulos. I have the tube but i cant get the reed to work. I already tried oboe reeds but it doesn't look or sound right.

Any suggestions?

There is a group that reproduces ancient music and musical instruments. Can't remember their name right now, but it starts with an S. anybody? I'll be they know the answer.

Why don't the oboe reeds sound right? I got those after realizing I had no aptitude or interest in learning to make my own double reeds from scratch. Would a bassoon reed give you what you need? I tried plastic straws, too, but they were uncontrollable.

Maybe look for a reed maker to work with?
