If you missed LAFE, or even if you went to LAFE and you are already having withdrawals.....DON"T DESPAIR!!!

Cohort V in Texas is sponsoring a Roman Encampment at Historic Old Fort Parker on April 29-May 1st Weekend.

Ft Parker is a Wooden Stockade Fort, the grounds afford nice primitive wooded area, large area to drill, outside of town to allow short marching exercises, period cooking, restrooms and showers available.

1. Firewood will be provided(the burn ban may be lifted, if not ,Cohort V has two big fire pits for all to use)

3. No Registration Fee for the Event

WHO CAN ATTEND: Any reenactor or living historian portraying Roman Legionaries from the History of the Roman Empire. We are also open to Rome's Enemies attending as well(please contact me on that)

We will have very specific details as the next few days go by, but just wanted to get the word out there as quickly as possible so folks can start planning. Ft Parker is located in Central Texas. Beautiful area with rustic camping.

Of course we all know it's not really Roman, but it's about as close as we have in Texas unless someone wins the Lottery and decides to build something. There are a couple of old Spanish Missions that have been restored, but they don't seem to want Romans in them. That's ok, but it's their loss (and ours).

We can make some provision for both modern and primitive camps, but I don't think there are RV hookups there. Get with Mike as soon as possible, as he's the point man on this event. Hope to see folks there.

Schedule will be published in a couple of weeks for those who plan to attend and want to know about it.

Ave All!!! Well the evnt at Ft Parker is shaping up nicely and we have people coming from out of state, which is very exciting.
If you are planning on attending, be sure you contact me in advance, either on RAT or thru my email: [email protected]

An EVENT WAIVER FORM will be given to you to sign and fill out on arrival. This is mandatory and we will formerly register you at that time.

If you are traveling a great distance and will be arriving at dark on Friday...no problem, but please let me know of your approximate arrival time so we can be prepared for you.

We want the event to be an enjoyable experience for all and with an accurate headcount, we can make that happen.

REMEMBER Legionaries AND Enemies of Rome are most welcome (and we have some Celts already attending), so let's here from you. If you are in striking distance, you don't want to miss this one. Salve, Antoninus

Hello,
Good to know there is a new Roman unit in Texas. I will see how many of the guys from Legio XIII can make it. I live in Belton so it's not to far from me. I will try and make it.

Schedule, menu, etc will be published by this Friday.

The public may (or may not) come to and through the camp during the open hours of the fort on Saturday and/or Sunday. We'll need to be ready to be friendly and informative if they do. A few years back, we had a Fur Trade era camp there, and I think we saw maybe six or seven visitors to the fort all camp. But that was then--don't know how many are there these days.

Saturday lunch
Fresh flatbread, cheeses, dried meat, dried apples, mulsum**, posca

Sunday breakfast
Oat cakes, samit (soft white cheese), boiled eggs, coffee*
Sunday lunch
Whatever is leftover buffet
Snacks of dried fruit and posca provided when requested. Monitor your own blood sugar level, and don't get dehydrated.

Thanks, Robert. Maybe one day we can build one of our own. Until then, we'll just have to borrow theirs from time to time.

Ave All!!! Just as a reminder, Monday, April 25th is the last day to register for the Ft Parker Encampment.

The response has been terrific, the weather seems to be cooperating, so it looks to be a great event. It is not too late to add your name to the YES I'M COMING Column.
