Helmet Patterns
#1
Salvete,

I was just wondering if anyone out there had a source on the internet for (or had themselves)any patterns for Roman helmets. Specifically, tracings of cheek-pieces and rear visors. I have been playing with reproducing them and need accurate patterns. I am a blacksmith and am attempting to do it without buying samples to copy (Im not that rich!). I can raise the bowl, but I need to know the correct shape to cut the cheek-guards and visors to.

If you go to the book "The Armour of Imperial Rome" by H. Russell Robinson, on pages 78 to 81 you will find his replicas of about all the helmet cheek plates that your after.
