The Time Traveller\'s Guide to Medieval England
#1
Salve

I have just finished this book and cannot recommend it enough. It is a description of everyday life in C14th England, told from a modern perspective. Usually this sort of book sets off alarm bells and I avoid, but it was recommended to me by a history professor so I took the plunge.

Unlike so many popular histories it is handled with immense tact and respect for the C14th people and their times. However, it is also fascinating and addictive. The author, Ian Mortimer has avoided the usual pitfalls of these popular histories, and what results is one of the most compelling accounts of ancient lives I have ever read. If anyone knows of a similar quality work about life in Medieval Japan, I will buy it up immediately.
