Chin Ties for Late Roman Intercisa Ridge Helmet
#1

Hi All.....my new Late Roman Ridge Helmet arrived today, and I like it for what it is, but I have one question(well maybe just one).....is this helmet supposed to have rings or loops where the "wang" can go thru to tie the cheek pieces together(or something?)
If so, what did it look like etc....I've included a picture of the helm, Thanks in advance, Mike

Looks like you have one of the old - pre re-worked Deepeeka helmets there Mike :-? . The newer improved helms have tie-rings. (As should this one actually).

To remedy the situation simply punch a 1/8" hole in the guard and rivet a leather thong to each cheek guard. this will allow you to tie it under the chin.

Thanks for the info, was that the only improvement on that helm and, if possible, where can I see an image for the placement of the rivet on each cheek piece? Thanks, Mike

Nevermind!!!!I see you sent me a link....that was very helpful. Are the rivets steel ones, I was thinking of putting rivets in the other areas as per the "new" version and rivet leather strap to the back piece(wish I had a photo of the inside of the helm to see that detail)
1. Where can I get proper rivets and backings for this helm
2. What would be a good dye to darken the leather liner?

....anything else I can do to improve it, Mike

No need to darken the leather, colour is good enough.
