i would like to recommend a book by the name of warrior by r.g. grant it has a lot of infomation and pics of the roman soldier and his gear. but has a lot of other time periods as well. including greek hoplite. it cost about $40. there is also battle by the same author. and war by another person. these are good books!

I have a set of these books, Warrior, Weapon and Battle. These are large hardcover coffee table books and they are very nice! Lots of great pictures of sharp and pointy things and things that go boom as well! 8-)
