Jewels of the late roman helmets
#1
Salvete omnes!

I am having a replica of the jewelled Berkasovo helmet made. We are wondering now about the "gems" in the helmet. What was the material of those stones, were they made of glass-paste perhaps?

Thanks in advance,
PS. Does anyone have a colour picture of the Concesti helmet? What was the colour of it, silver perhaps?

From what I recall, they are a glass paste. I think it was discussed at the RAT Conference as well. I was fighting a sinus infection so was not absorbing everything.

Thanks Byron!

Yes, I was remembering too that someone said they were made of glass paste. The problem is that I have no idea what glass paste is  ...
